3D-Printed Flexible Surfaces
During a 3D printing workshop I took while studying in Estonia, I took on the challenge of developing a flexible surface from rigid materials. Inspired by certain origami "switch" folds, I developed a simple mechanism of joining individually printed pieces (shown on the right) to create a surface that could be expanded and contracted.
Modeling done in Autodesk Maya and Rhino. Formfinding renders and final model creation process shown below.
